Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College are both co-educational institutions granting four-year bachelor degrees, two-year associate degrees, one-year certificates, and graduate degrees.
Fairmont State was founded in 1867 and Pierpont Community & Technical College was founded in 1974. The shared 90-acre (0.364 square kilometer) campus is located in North Central West Virginia, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and 230 miles (370 kilometers) west of Washington, D.C. The city of Fairmont, with a population of 21,000, is noted for its friendly atmosphere and peaceful environment.
FSU and Pierpont have an enrollment of over 7,200 students with undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields, including liberal arts, education, business, engineering technology, and pre-professional education.
Fairmont State has always welcomed students from many backgrounds and cultures. Today, more than 70 citizens of 22 different countries, representing five continents, attend Fairmont State University.
