    Students are reminded to check their accounts to make sure they have paid or made arrangements for payment for fall semester expenses. Please make sure this is all in order by the close of business on Friday, September 3rd. Students will be removed from classes for nonpayment beginning Tuesday, September 7th.     Pierpont Community & Technical College President Doreen Larson has named Professor Leslie Lovett as Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs. Lovett will begin her new duties on September 1, 2010.

    The Pierpont Community & Technical College Board of Governors observed a moment of silence at its meeting, Tuesday, August 24th, to remember the student who died on campus over the weekend. A moment of silence was also observed earlier in the day at a student convocation.

    "We grieve with the student's family and friends," said James E. Griffin, board chairman. "What a tragic thing to have happen."

    A Pierpont Community & Technical College student died on campus, Saturday, August 21st.

    The student was living in a residence hall on the main campus shared by Pierpont and Fairmont State University.

    The incident, which occurred in Morrow Hall, is under investigation by the FSU Department of Public Safety. No foul play is suspected. According to the Department of Public Safety, there is no indication that any other students, staff or faculty were or are in danger related to the student's death.

    Welcome Weekend, planned for Thursday, Aug. 19, through Sunday, Aug. 22, is a program designed by the Office of Student Affairs to provide incoming freshmen with their road map to start their college experience moving in the right direction. Classes for the fall 2010 semester begin Monday, Aug. 23.

    Friday, August 20th is the last day for students to complete the application process for the Fall 2010 semester at Pierpont Community & Technical College. Classes begin on Monday, August 23rd.

    About 30 resident assistants (RAs) and staff from the Office of Residence Life of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College spent a sweaty Saturday morning cleaning up Locust Avenue.

    Through Sept. 30, Fairmont State University's Community Music Program for Children and Adults will be accepting fall 2010 registration for private lessons in piano, voice, guitar, woodwinds, brass, percussion, improvisation, music theory and composition.

    Fairmont State University has named Devanna Corley as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. She will begin her duties Monday, Aug. 16, and will serve until a permanent appointment to the position is made. The Office of Institutional Advancement provides services to both FSU and its sister institution, Pierpont Community & Technical College.

    The Office of Enrollment Services, Room 248 Hardway Hall, will close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, to allow for air conditioning repairs.

    The office's regular hours are Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
