For non-science majors, this course is designed to give students a greater appreciation of the world around them. The course focuses on observable, useful science by an integrated approach of meteorology and astronomy from the perspective of Earth. Topics cover the Earth’s formation, its weather, and its place in the Universe. Students investigate both the process and content of science through activities, collaborative learning, guest speakers, and local field trips. Concepts are applied to weather and astronomy observations as well as critical environmental issues.
The course uses a printed text and meets for two-hour class periods twice a week.
