FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 3, 2026
FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Pierpont Community & Technical College’s School of Health Sciences will bring together runners, walkers, families, and community supporters on Saturday, October 10 at Prickett’s Fort State Park for the inaugural Fall in Love with Health 5K and Monty’s Mini Mile. The event promotes healthy living while raising funds for student scholarships and support services.
Hosted in partnership with the Marion County Running & Walking Club, the event will feature a 5K run/walk on the Mon River Rail-Trail and Monty’s Mini Mile, a children’s race that includes fun obstacles along the course. The Mini Mile begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 5K at 10 a.m.
The 5K course follows an out-and-back route on the rail-trail’s crushed limestone surface, offering a scenic and welcoming experience for runners and walkers of all ages and ability levels. After the races, participants can enjoy music, family activities, health screenings, wellness information, and interactive exhibits led by Pierpont School of Health Sciences students and faculty.
The event also allows community members to learn more about healthcare careers and see firsthand how Pierpont students are preparing to serve the region’s healthcare workforce.
“The Fall in Love with Health 5K and Monty’s Mini Mile is an opportunity to bring our community together around health, wellness and family fun,” said Jennifer Reed, Instructor in Pierpont’s Licensed Practical Nursing Program. “Whether participants choose to run, walk, volunteer, or cheer from the sidelines, they’re helping support students while celebrating healthy lifestyles and community connections.”
Proceeds will benefit the School of Health Sciences scholarship and student support services through the Pierpont Foundation.
“Every registration, sponsorship and donation helps create opportunities for our students,” said Miki DeMary-Andrew, LPN Clinical Coordinator and Instructor at Pierpont. “The scholarships and support services funded through this event can make a meaningful difference for students as they work toward their educational goals and prepare for careers serving communities across our region.”
The Fall in Love with Health 5K is part of the 2026 Marion County Race Series, and members of the Marion County Running & Walking Club receive a $5 registration discount. Additional information about the race series is available at www.marioncountyraceseries.org.
Registration is $30 for the 5K and $10 for Monty’s Mini Mile. Participants who register by September 20 are guaranteed an event T-shirt. Registration remains open through race day.
Local businesses and organizations can also support the event through sponsorship opportunities. Sponsorship proceeds directly support scholarships and student assistance initiatives within Pierpont’s School of Health Sciences.
