FAIRMONT — Pierpont President Johnny M. Moore along with five former student-athletes were inducted as members of the second class of the Philander Smith College Athletic Hall of Fame Nov. 10 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Moore was a men’s basketball standout and, as a freshman, shared District 17 Player of the Week honors with former University of Central Arkansas All-American and NBA All-Star Scottie Pippen. Other honorees included Selita Farr, women’s basketball standout; Ryan Holmes, All-American basketball star; Rapheal Lewis, men’s track and field champion; Lisa Holliday, multi-sport athlete; and Eddie Boone, basketball and football star turned coach.

“Philander Smith College has a long-standing standing history of producing stellar athletes who go on to achieve great personal and career success beyond competitive play,” Philander Smith College President Dr. Roderick L. Smothers Sr. said. “We are thrilled to honor this second class of honorees to include the 13th President of Philander Smith College, Dr. Johnny M. Moore, and to enshrine their legacies in our Athletic Hall of Fame.”

The honorees were inducted as part of the college’s Homecoming festivities during a celebratory banquet attended by family, friends, and supporters. The group was also honored during halftime of the Panther basketball game the following day as a continuation of Homecoming.
