Dr. Johnny M. Moore
has been selected as the next President of
Pierpont Community & Technical College
Pierpont Community & Technical College Board of Governors is honored to name Dr. Johnny Moore as the institution’s third President. Dr. Moore was enthusiastically chosen by the Presidential Search Committee consisting of current members of the institution’s Board of Governors; representation of faculty, students, and staff; as well as representatives from regional education and industry partners.
“The search committee went through an extensive selection process and unanimously chose Dr. Moore and his vision for Pierpont’s future,” said Pierpont Board of Governors Chair James E. Griffin. “I am convinced that Dr. Moore will provide the leadership needed to meet the opportunities ahead. He has a proven track record in academics, advancement, strategic enrollment, and excels at leading institutional change.”
Dr. Moore visited the campus on April 7th and impressed the students, staff, and community with his proven leadership capabilities, academic experience, fund-raising success, and his open and collaborative management style.
Dr. Moore currently serves as a Special Assistant to the President at Northeast Texas Community College. He previously served as the President of Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas and the Executive Vice President for Student Affairs at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. Dr. Moore received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the Florida Institute of Technology and was employed at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida where he quickly raised through the ranks from Master Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Tenured Professor/ Mathematics Department Chairman to the position of Vice-President of Student Affairs all within a nine-year period.
Final approval of Dr. Moore's appointment will be considered by the West Virginia Council of Community and Technical College Education System at the April 28th regularly scheduled meeting. Dr. Moore will officially begin his tenure as Pierpont’s president on July 1, 2016.
