Entry Level Underground Miner course

Pierpont’s 80-hour Entry Level Underground Miner course is designed to prepare students for the WV Office of Miners Health and Safety certification exam. This is required for a career as an entry-level underground coal miner. Trainees will be exposed to a general orientation in mining, mining health and safety, mine gases and ventilation, roof and ribs, haulage, emergency response, accident prevention and hazard recognition, and miner and operator rights and responsibilities. Students cannot miss a class or be late.
 
This course is taught by Greg Riley.

An MSHA 5023 form will be issued to each student who successfully passes the course. This is necessary for the WV Office of Miner’s Health and Safety exam.

The exam is given in Morgantown following the class.

Upon completion of the training, students will be eligible to sit for the WV Office of Miner’s Health and Safety exam.

Exam cost is not included in the cost of the training tuition. The exam costs $10, payable to the WV Office of Miner’s Health and Safety.

Tuition Cost: $500

Registration and payment are required by Monday, March 3.
 
Financial Aid is available for qualified applicants.
