FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 4, 2024

Fairmont, WV – Jessica Barker, Jocelynn Kilgore, and Devin Teter have been elected as president, vice president, and treasurer, respectively, of the Pierpont Community and Technical College Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2024 – 2025 academic year.

Barker hails from Bridgeport, West Virginia, and is studying in Pierpont’s early childhood education program. She is an active member in SGA and previously served as the organization’s interim public relations officer during the 2023 – 2024 academic year. Although this is Barker’s first leadership role, she is enthusiastic and eager to serve her campus community.

“Being elected as the Student Government Association president means the world to me,” said Barker. “Student life is crucial on a college campus, especially at a community college, as it offers opportunities for personal and academic growth. It enriches the college experience, complements classroom learning, and helps students develop social and networking skills for their future careers.”

For Barker, the role establishes her not only as a leader but as an advocate for her peers in the classroom and beyond. “I want every student to know that my door is always open for any questions, comments, or concerns they may have. Whether it concerns their class material, personal challenges, or anything else, I am here to support and listen, and I am committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for every student.”

Kilgore hails from Fairmont, West Virginia, and is also studying in Pierpont’s early childhood education program. “I am really excited for what Jessica, Devin, and I can do to make Pierpont a place where students feel encouraged to get involved on campus,” said Kilgore. “I hope to foster a casual and friendly environment where no one feels left out, and everyone can feel comfortable interacting with each other.”

Teter hails from Fairmont, West Virginia, and is studying in the health sciences program at Pierpont. He is an active member in SGA and previously served as the organization’s vice president during the 2023 – 2024 academic year.

Barker and Teter were among a group of SGA members who attended the NACA® Live Campus Activities Conference in Pittsburgh in late February. The group joined their peers from hundreds of colleges and universities across the United States to engage with over 140 educational sessions, workshops, speakers, and roundtable discussions to strengthen campus activities and transform college communities.

Pierpont’s Student Government Association meets bi-weekly during the academic year, and all students are welcome and encouraged to participate. To learn more, click here or contact studentgovernment@pierpont.edu or (304) 534-7864.
