FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Pierpont Community & Technical College and West Virginia University at Parkersburg (WVU Parkersburg) signed two new 2+2 articulation agreements that create seamless transfer opportunities for Pierpont graduates to continue their education and earn a bachelor’s degree.

The agreements allow students who complete Pierpont’s Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Early Childhood Education to transfer into WVU Parkersburg’s Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Child Development, and students who complete an A.A.S. at Pierpont to transfer into WVU Parkersburg’s B.A.S. in Supervisory Management. Both programs are offered entirely online, offering flexibility for working professionals and students across the region.

“These agreements reflect a simple idea. Colleges serve students and communities best when we work together,” said Dr. Michael Waide, Interim President of Pierpont. “Partnerships like this reduce friction for learners, create clear paths from one credential to the next and help more people stay on track and complete. By aligning programs and transferring credit efficiently, we give students a straight path into high-demand fields.”
Under the agreements:
- Students completing Pierpont’s A.A.S. in Early Childhood Education can enter WVU Parkersburg’s B.A.S. in Child Development program, which prepares graduates to plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children. The program is designed as a career ladder and can be completed entirely online.
- Students completing an A.A.S. at Pierpont can enter WVU Parkersburg’s B.A.S. in Supervisory Management program, which equips graduates with skills in managerial accounting, process and quality management, strategic management, and marketing management. This program is also fully online.

“Collaboration is one of the words that you heard today, and it is very important that we begin to collaborate across the state as we take opportunities to advance student education,” said Dr. Torie Jackson, President of WVU Parkersburg. “As the only community college in the state to have a unique opportunity to offer baccalaureate degrees, we believe it is part of our mission to partner with institutions like Pierpont to ensure clear pathways for students. We are excited about this partnership and the opportunities it creates for students to succeed.”

Both agreements focus on meeting West Virginia’s workforce needs and increasing baccalaureate degree attainment. By creating clear transfer pathways, Pierpont and WVU Parkersburg are helping students save time and money while advancing their careers.
The signing ceremony took place at Pierpont’s Advanced Technology Center in Fairmont and included remarks from leaders of both institutions.
