FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Pierpont Community & Technical College Board of Governors held its final meeting of the 2024–2025 academic year on June 17, marking a moment of reflection, recognition, and renewal as the institution prepares for the year ahead.

Two dedicated members concluded their terms on the Board: Jessica Killon, Student Government Association President and Class of 2025 graduate, and Juanita Nickerson, classified staff representative. Both were honored for their service and contributions to the college community.

Board Chair David Hinkle praised Killon’s leadership, stating, “Jessica set the bar high.” Interim President Dr. Michael Waide echoed this sentiment, noting, “Jessica served our students well, always sensing value.”

Nickerson reflected on her time with the Board, saying, “It has been a great opportunity to serve with some of the greatest people this board has had. They have a heart for the college.”

In a heartfelt message, Killon shared her reflections on her term as SGA President: “Serving as President of the Student Government Association this past year was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my time at Pierpont… We created opportunities for students to connect, to be heard, and to feel a stronger sense of belonging on campus… I’m proud to have played a small part in making a difference.”

Mary Jo Rutherford, who concluded her service as Classified Staff Chair, expressed gratitude to the Board and President’s Council for their support and welcomed Memori Dobbs as the newly elected Classified Staff Chair. “This is my last BOG meeting as Classified Staff Chair. I know Memori will do an excellent job. I wish you well as you continue to move Pierpont forward,” Rutherford said.

As part of the meeting, the Board held elections for its leadership for the upcoming term. Lisa Lang, a Bridgeport-based volunteer, entrepreneur, and community activist, was elected as the new Chair, becoming the first woman to hold the position. Lang previously served as Vice Chair.

Outgoing Chair David Hinkle, who served in the role for four years, was elected Vice Chair. The Board expressed deep appreciation for his leadership and commitment to Pierpont. Jeffrey Powell was elected as Secretary.
