FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 2, 2026
FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Pierpont Community & Technical College’s Foundation brought back its Day of Giving April 1, celebrating the stories behind Pierpont Proud and highlighting the collective impact of alumni, employees, students and community supporters across North Central West Virginia.
The Day of Giving generated 53 gifts from 40 donors, reflecting broad engagement in support of Pierpont’s mission to provide accessible education, workforce training and essential student resources. Giving remains open through Friday, April 4, at 11:59 p.m. at giving.pierpont.edu.
“This day is about more than a single number,” said Interim President Dr. Michael Waide. “It reflects the belief our community has in Pierpont students and in the role this college plays in changing lives. Every gift, no matter the size, helps remove barriers and create opportunity.”
One focus of the Day of Giving was support for the Pierpont Pantry, which raised $1,925 to help open and operate food pantries on the Fairmont, Clarksburg and Bridgeport campuses. The pantries address student food insecurity and provide critical support so students can remain focused on completing their education.
Matching challenges throughout the day encouraged additional participation, including the President’s Match supporting the Pierpont Pantry, a Board of Governors degree Alumni match supporting student needs, and the Pierpont Campus Challenge benefiting the President’s Fund. These challenges allowed donor gifts to go further while underscoring leadership support for Pierpont priorities.
“The generosity we’ve seen speaks to how deeply our community cares about student success,” said Kathy Hypes, Director of the Pierpont Foundation. “Day of Giving is one moment in a year-round effort to ensure students have what they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.”
The Day of Giving followed a successful Aviation Elimination Dinner held March 28 at the Bridgeport Conference Center, which brought in more than $23,000 in support of Pierpont’s aviation programs. Additional fundraising opportunities are planned throughout the spring, including the Spring Fling Elimination Dinner on April 18 in partnership with the Fairmont Knights of Columbus. Tickets remain available at go.pierpont.edu/spring-dinner.
