FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Children in costumes will once again fill the halls of Pierpont Community & Technical College’s Advanced Technology Center when the college hosts its fifth annual Community Trick-or-Treat on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The free event is open to families from across north-central West Virginia to enjoy a safe, indoor Halloween celebration while exploring interactive displays hosted by Pierpont academic programs, student organizations, community partners and local businesses. Early access from 5 to 5:30 p.m. will be available for guests with accessibility needs and their families.
What began as a small campus celebration has grown into a community tradition, drawing hundreds of children and their families each year. Throughout the evening, children can trick-or-treat from table to table, collect candy and giveaways, and learn about the educational programs, community services and local organizations that support families across the region.
“Community is at the heart of this event,” said Dr. Michael Waide, President of Pierpont Community & Technical College. “Families come together for a fun and safe Halloween experience, but they also have the chance to meet the people, programs and organizations that serve our region every day. The event is one of the many ways the college engages with communities across the region.”
More than 20 Pierpont departments, academic programs, student organizations and community organizations have already committed to participating this year. Organizers are encouraging additional businesses, nonprofits, community organizations and public agencies to participate by hosting a trick-or-treat table.
“One of the things that makes this event special is the creativity and enthusiasm our participants bring each year,” said David Beighley, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. “Families enjoy a fun evening of trick-or-treating, while local businesses, organizations and college programs have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the community. We welcome additional partners to join us and help create a memorable experience for hundreds of local families.”
Organizations and businesses that host a table are asked to provide their own decorations, candy and giveaways and are encouraged to create family-friendly displays designed to engage visitors throughout the evening.
The deadline to register for a table is Thursday, Oct. 22. For more information about attending the event or hosting a table, visit go.pierpont.edu/trick-or-treat-table.
