FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Pierpont Community & Technical College will celebrate Earth Day by hosting its first-ever Campus and Community Farmers Market on Wednesday, April 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Advanced Technology Center, 500 Galliher Drive, Fairmont.
Sponsored by Pierpont’s Student Services, the outdoor market will bring together local farmers, growers, makers, student organizations and community partners for an afternoon of fresh food, handmade goods and campus engagement. The event is open to students, employees and the public.
Vendors scheduled to attend include Coffee Coach Mobile Café, Buffalo Creek Provisions, Mon Valley Mushrooms, DeBerry Farm Fresh Produce, Mountaineer Fox Farms, Green Acres & Greenhouses LLC, Mix’n Mamas, Cakes by Ashley and Made in the Mountains, along with Pierpont student organizations such as CHOP, the Culinary Arts student organization, and the LPN Student Organization, which will offer walk-up blood pressure readings.
“This market has been a true labor of love and a great example of what can happen when campus and community come together,” said Skylar Thompson, Admissions and Advising Specialist at Pierpont, who planned the event. “We wanted to create a welcoming space where students can connect with local growers and makers, learn more about where their food and goods come from, and feel proud to support small businesses in our region.”
To encourage student participation, students participating will receive Monty Money, which can be redeemed at select booths.
“The farmers market is about more than shopping. It’s about student engagement, wellness and celebrating local entrepreneurship,” said Nancy Parks, Associate Vice President of Student Services. “Events like this support our students beyond the classroom while reinforcing Pierpont’s commitment to community partnerships and hands-on experiences.”
The farmers market is part of Pierpont’s Earth Day programming and reflects the college’s mission to connect education, workforce development and community.
